The rulers of Dir originally held the title of Khan but from June 1897 onwards were styled Nawab Khan Bahadur of the Tanoli tribe. The royal status of the rulers was abolished in 1972 at the same time as most other princes of Pakistan.

There's no tree that links us to Arabs do you know your subtribe how does that relate to your claim ? If we are Arab why don't we speak Arabic at home are traditions are not even remotely close to the Arabs and Arabs themselves have no record of us either. Please read the correct history instead of relying on false information because we are Muslim that does not make us automatically related to the prophets in the end we are all the entire human kind is related to Hazrat Adam A.S. so it still doesn't make us any special either way. Tanolis And Ahmed Shah Abdali Tanolis/TanoKhels and Ahmad Shah Abdali In 1752, the Tanolis allied with the Afghan Emperor Ahmad Shah Abdali and took part in military conquests, including the Battle of Panipat in 1761, under their chief Zabardast Khan Tanoli who was given the title of "Suba Khan” by Ahmad Shah Baba for his bravery. In the 18th and early 19th century, two of the main Tanoli clans, the Hindwal Khel and the Pallal Khel, fell into a feud and had a bitter struggle between them. The Hindwal khel clan gradually began to gain ascendancy, and Painda Khan of the Hindwal khel clan successfully united all Tanolis into one entity, which eventually became the princely states of Amb and Phulra. The Amb State lasted until 1969, with its primary capital at Darband, and summer capital at Shergarh. The construction of the Tarbela Dam reservoir in the early 1970s submerged Darband, a capital of the former state of Amb, underwater.

Jirga Concept In 1936 Dastarbandi of Nawab Muhammad Farid Khan in Amb by the elders of Khel Begal of Tanoli tribe in the shape of jirga. Under this ancient democratic ritual, the confidence of the country and the leaders of all branches of the tribe was considered necessary for Tappa Hindwal to be recognized as the head of Tanoli's.

Jirgas are an important part of Tanoli culture. As a result of which many problems and riots are solved, man turns back to brotherhood. Even today, all the tribes, including the Tanoli tribe of Shergarh and its suburbs (Upper Tanawal), bring their jirgas to Nawab Salahuddin Saeed Khan(Chief of Tanoli Tribe) And Nawab Sahib presides over all these jirgas and makes peace between them.
